Not quite what I was expecting but very informative and instructive. I like the down to earth examples....no special equipment needed...this is what I do...this is how it should look/smell. There is a big section on fermenting which was very interesting and new to me.
I liked her recipes, have tried several, and her information on bottling and freezing. I think this was a good purchase.

A below par cook book with pictures.
You have too much of something in the garden. You go look it up in the index and find nothing helpful. It's very disappointing for the beginner and for the longer term grower there are much better options out there.

A lovely book with great pictures and loads of clear instructions, advice about equipment and inspiration, all written in the very down to earth and passionate style that is Alys Fowler. A good starting point for anyone who would like to get a little bit closer to self sufficiency or would like to enjoy their own produce made to their own tastes. The recipes call for small amounts of ingredients - no gluts required - enabling production of small quantities of lots of different things - a much better way to enjoy your harvest through the winter! Just need to find room for more plants in the garden next year now.

Excellent guide to storing your produce from the garden. Some really good tips and tricks too.
Alys obviously cares deeply about the subject matter which comes through

Informative, detailed and wide-ranging. Within weeks has become a 'bible' for growing and in particular what to do with the fruits of our labours.

Alys writes well, gives good sensible and thoroughly practical advice, and her guidelines really do work. This inspired me to invest in a dehydrator, and I haven't looked back. It's so nice to find some ways of preserving which don't just lead to pots and pots of jam!

Not read it yet. Lent it to my sister and still haven't got it back as she is too busy reading every inch.
