This nicely produced hardback book is pretty good value for it`s size and content.

There are 170 full-colour illustrations of what most would consider mainstream Gothic art subject matter; vampires, witches, demons, werewolves etc.. The images are large - some in double-page spreads - and the layout is good.
The text is very informative, dealing with the history and influence of Gothic Romanticism from it early literary origins, through 19th century art and on into film, gaming and the explosion of dark-fantasy literature and imagery of the current scene.
Unfortunately, the text feels as if it was written and the illustrations compiled independently, as there is little direct reference made to much of the work included in the book and a great deal of the material discussed by Nicola Henderson's otherwise excellent narrative is not included here; the book is best read in conjunction with internet access in order to find some of the artwork referred to.
Most of the work has been rendered by digital means - the handful of demonstrations are double-page breakdowns of Photoshop procedures - but aren`t all that useful as examples; I don`t see the point in their inclusion really.
There is work in traditional media - evocative, eerie nocturnal pastel-rendered landscapes by Anne Sudworth, oils by Brom, acrylics by Alex Horley, etc., but the bulk is by well-known digital artists like the very popular Anne Stokes et al. I have no problem with this, but it does present a rather narrow range of mainly commercial artists and the Gothic aesthetic is broader and wider-ranging than this selection would imply; so in this respect the book is a bit of a missed opportunity.
Limitations, however are understandable as this would then have to be a very much larger book indeed.

A good coffee-table book for those of a darker disposition; a nice volume to leaf through and quite inspiring if you are artistically inclined.
