Got a signed copy of this book recently as a gift for the minister who just married us as he is a big road racing fan, I have not given it to him yet as I have been skipping church since the wedding! The pictures are amazing and really give a sense of the man both on and off the bike with pictures of him on motorbikes from he was about 1 year old, it's no wonder he is so good he has obviously been around them his entire life! As well as the racing shots which really capture a sense of the action, danger and speed of the bikes there are also a couple of nice artistic and scenic style photographs showing the beauty of the courses. There are some nice of shots of John with the other legendary bike racers Joey Dunlop and Valentino Rossi and it also provides stats on lap times from 1996 up to this years (2012) racing. I have read through a couple of Stephen Davison's earlier books, Flying Finn and Between the Hedges and although they are both great I think this is definitely the best and a good buy for anyone interested in road racing or just bikes in general.

John Mcguiness is to me is everything that a world class ride should be. From humble beginnings he has become the greatest rider that I can think of. The TT is an unforgiving course which takes a different breed of man to ride, none of the posing of a GP rider or the glitz of SBK, this is real riding where one slip mean a serious off into a wall, fence or even a pud. No run off areas for these guys. Despite all of this Mcguinness has stayed true to the sport, himself and his family. This book for me means that I can easily refer to a great motorcycle riding hero. If you love the TT but have never been there, know of John Mcguinness but have never met him then this is the book to have for your coffee table.

I have only marked the kindle version down as 1 star, not the book version.

This is not a book to buy for a kindle, it will display terrible, you cannot change the font size or the page orientation.
It will only display in a small area of the screen to which it is impossible to do anything with. You often get just a few very small words that you cannot read or adjust in size on the page.

Do yourself a favour if you want to read this, buy the proper book.

I've followed John's career since '98 or so when he rode the Vimto bikes for Paul Bird, and I have Stephen Davison's other road racing books bar one.
I was wary that having seen a lot of Stephen's pics of john before in other publications, that those photos may appear in this book. And that has been the case. But that's not a bad thing, as the photos are pretty good, although I would have preferred to see more photos from John's earlier career at the TT, especially the two years of John riding a 125, which, unfortunately, there isn't even one !
For anyone just new to the TT or John McGuinness this is decent book to catch up on this Great TT rider's career on the mountain course. But for the already converted TT fan you may be slightly frustrated by the lack of pictures from earlier TTs.

A 3.5 star book, but I'll give it 4.
