This review is from: Common Ground Beetles (Naturalists' handbooks) (Paperback)
This is an ok book for introducing this group. The keys are fairly easy to use with a little practise, although some characters are not immediately obvious and some species cannot be separated using this edition. The newer edition (2000) includes all ground beetle species rather than just the commoner ones, giving characters for separating all of them. However, if you want a really good book get the Carabidae 9ground beetles) of Britain and Ireland by Martin Luff - it is much clearer and has colour photos too.

This review is from: Common Ground Beetles (Naturalists' handbooks) (Paperback)
Trevor Forsythe's book is what would be described today as an entry level book. Entry not only into the world of British Carbids but entry into the world of coleoptera and entomology. As the previous seller wrote in his review the definitive book on the beetle family Carabidae is by Martin Luff, 'The Carabidae (ground beetles) of Britain and Ireland' published in 2007. However, Forsythe's book is good place to start.
