5.0 out of 5 stars "Beginner"? Not when you've been guided by this teacher!, 3 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Beginner's Guide to Silk Ribbon Embroidery (Paperback)
Check out the Euphorbia and Yarrow pictured on the cover (details within). You don't have to read the notes on the author to discover that Ann Cox is a keen gardener as well as a gifted artist and embroiderer. She knows and loves her flowers well, interpreting them in ribbon with a simplicity and clarity which makes the reader eager to try it themselves. The complete novice could pick up this book and quickly gain sufficient confidence and skill to compose their own artworks. From the sixty different flowers illustrated, even the well-experienced ribbon artist is lkely to find another source of inspiration.
This is not a book which tells you where to use your new skill, that is left to your own imagination. Neither does it suggest ribbon materials beyond silk (although you cannot help but think silk ribbon may be more than enough!).
This is a book of flowers, all kinds of flowers. If you want teddybears or butterflies, look elsewhere but don't worry: the skills learned from this excellent teacher will serve you well whatever you try next. Definitely five-star value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely book, 21 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Beginner's Guide to Silk Ribbon Embroidery (Paperback)
This book is a pleasure to use.I particularly like the way it is set out as it is very clear. Ann Cox demonstrates the different flowers that can be achieved with any one particular stitch just by adapting different materials and techniques I would recommend it for beginners and advanced stitchers as it is inspirational.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning in silk, 23 April 2003
By A Customer
Following on from her first book, this book gives the reader a new selection of flowers to stitch, with clear photographs and descriptions making it easy to recreate the flowers and their painted backgrounds.
A knowledge of silk ribbon embroidery would be an advantage before trying the projects in this book, but would be suitable for both an advanced beginner and an experienced stitcher.
