This review is from: Small Claims Procedure in the County Court: A Practical Guide to Mediation and Litigation (Paperback)
Comprehensive text with a helpful supply of precedent letters and pleadings which usefully are not worded as if the partes are pretending to be lawyers. I am a retired legal lag and have found this a useful and reasonably priced (for a legal text) reference for assisting a friend run her own claim. My one caveat is that it is quite dense for the lay reader and they are the very people that the small claims track is for. The layout may not make sense on a superficial reading but it is well thought out with plenty of cross referencing. That may sound dire but that is just the thing you need in a legal text. You will also get the best if you read the relevant sections thoroughly. Getting the procedure and your claim/defence right is essential for the litigants. Applying the law to the situation is for the Judge.

The small claims track is one of the best parts of the English legal system. This book will help you get the best out of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great guidance on how to run a small claims case for litigants in person, 10 Nov. 2011
This review is from: Small Claims Procedure in the County Court: A Practical Guide to Mediation and Litigation (Paperback)
It is the best advice a potential litigant in person can obtain if a dispute ever reaches the County Court. It provides information about the time limits, about what to expect at every stage, references to the rules (in layman terms, though), practical tips, very useful examples, guidance, whether the case is decided by mediation, at a hearing and other options that are available. After reading the book throughout carefully, even when I do not know the outcome of the case yet, it certainly made me feel much, much more confident than I was before reading it. I would certainly recommend it. I cannot think of any improvements to the book right now. The most important element of this book to me is that it has been written by an experienced Circuit Judge and a Barrister, yet they have managed to communicate ideas in a language people like me, not legally trained, can understand.

This review is from: Small Claims Procedure in the County Court: A Practical Guide to Mediation and Litigation (Paperback)
A recommended buy if you are representing yourself in a small claim, especially if you are vs someone being represented by a solicitor. Tells you everything you need to know from start to finish. Excellent book.

This review is from: Small Claims Procedure in the County Court: A Practical Guide to Mediation and Litigation (Paperback)
A refreshingly honest text which starts off by telling you the bits you need to read and the bit you can skip - which I always like..... It's probably overkill for what I wanted but I will undoubtedly want to refer to this again - it completely de mystifies the small claims court...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Leading Consumer Legal Reference Book, 28 Jan. 2013

Pearl and Goodman's 'Small Claims Procedure in the County Court' has to be the leading consumer legal reference book. It's suitable for both the intelligent layman and legal practitioners alike. As a practising solicitor, even I used it occasionally to quickly double-check technical points. That in itself is a testament to its reliability. I cannot find fault with this book. Use it if you face trouble in the civil courts.

This is a practical guide through the procedures of the small claim aspect of the County courts. Highly recommended for first timers and probably for not so novices as well.
