A superb book with some wonderful portraits, all in black and white, taken over the past 50 years of a whole host of famous and now not so famous faces. I bought the book as a present for my wife and whilst she hadn't previously heard of Jane Brown she appreciated and enjoyed this well presented book. A great selection of the work from this very talented photographer.

Quite simply, this a marvellous book of wonderful photos that should delight any photographer. The perfect simplicity of Jane Bown's work, all in mono, is very pleasing.
Note..Search Channel Four News website for a fine little video about Jane and her work, relating to the exhibition at the Guardian offices, of photos in this book.

After visiting the exhibition at King's Place, this was the perfect reminder of an inspiring experience. Although there is little, if any detail, on the subjects, locations, etc, that is actually part of the charm of the book. Very happy with this purchase.

This was bought as a present for a budding photographer. The book arrived in very good condition and looks interesting. What an amazing life she has had.

This is a beautiful collection of the stunning work of this under appreciated genius. Like Cartier Bresson, Bown uses available light and the only cropping is done by the newspaper picture editors. These are largely uncropped and as the photographer intended. Fantastic.

A bit like realising how many quotations there are when you read Shakespeare, so are the astonishing number of definitive portraits that appear in this book from this brilliant, unnassuming woman. Using yesterdays technology, available light and little else bar skill and persistence she creates a series of images to which the word "iconic" is for once the only accurate description. stunning.

Sad when you really only take notice of someone's work when their death is announced! I really enjoyed these portraits taken over many years by Jane Bown. Great price for the book when you look at the cost of her other works. Some really great photographs to enjoy.
