This review is from: Medieval Roads (Paperback)
Anyone interested in the history of roads in England has to understand that there really wasn't much long distance road building done between the Romans who petered out in C5 and the Turnpikes from C18. There was no roadbuilding and no evidence for it which forms a difficult archaeological void, but the author marshals the non-evidence well.
