When I got the stamp collecting bug as a boy the Stanley Gibbons Stamps of the World catalogue in the school library was in black and white and stopped at 1979. Thirty years later and the catalogue is in full colour and spans 5 volumes. At £50 per volume this makes for a very expensive buy, so replacing my set is a once every half decade event. Luckily thanks to Amazon the blow of the cost has been cushioned. The discounted price I was charged was even cheaper than the reduced price I'd've paid had I gone down to the Stanley Gibbons shop on the Strand and bought the set in person. My only gripe is that, unlike previous editions, nowhere does it say in the catalogues which date they go up to - kind of useful when deciding which back issues of Gibbons Stamp Monthly to throw out.
