5.0 out of 5 stars The Final Word, 5 Jun. 2009

This review is from: The Final Word (Welwyn Commentaries) (Paperback)
Have just finished reading the Final Word. This is not just Revelation simply explained. It is intelligently written and keeps the reader interested throughout. I would very much recommend this book to any who have previously struggled with reading and understanding this last book of the Bible.

Revelation is a difficult book to read, but Wilmshurst's commentary is a useful interpretation of Revelation that is easy to read. It contains many helpful illustrations to aid understanding and make things relevant for today. For a more complex interpretaion of Revelation you might try the Bible Speaks Today (BST) commentary, but this one takes a different stance and comes to a different conclusion. I found it useful reading the two together. This is much the easier read, whilst the BST commentary deals with the issues in greater depth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Readable, relevant and encouraging., 7 Mar. 2014

I was fortunate to have Steve Wilmshurst as my lecturer on the book of Revelation when I did it by distance learning at WEST (the finest theological College on the planet). His feedback was always thoughtful and detailed and certainly helped me redefine some of my views on the book. So it comes as no surprise to find that he has taken that approach in writing this commentary. It is incredibly easy to easy to read, and although there are almost certainly more technical and detailed commentaries on Revelation I think this is one of the best. Even if you do find you disagree with him on certain points (as I do with his views to do with the millennium) his argument is always well worth considering. One of the key things you come away with after reading this is how encouraging the book of Revelation is for Christians rather than scaring you witness some would have you believe it is meant to do! As I've already said I don't think you'll find a better commentary. So buy this, as it certainly won't break the bank, read it and be encouraged.
