This review is from: The Native British Spotted Pony (Allen Guides to Horse & Pony Breeds) (Paperback)
Spotted horses and ponies are generally referred to as types rather than breeds, principally because spotting can occur in almost any breed. However, by limiting outcrosses to just four native breeds (Shetlands, Dartmoor and Welsh, up to 14.2hh., the Spotted Pony Breed Society (GB) has encouraged the breeding of a type which, although it cannot yet be called a 'closed breed' (i.e. with no outcrosses allowed), nevertheless combines hybrid vigour with an increasingly recognisable 'type'.

Mary Bassett is one of the world's leading experts on spotted ponies, and The Native British Spotted Pony provides an attractive introduction to the increasingly popular spotted pony.

This review is from: The Native British Spotted Pony (Allen Guides to Horse & Pony Breeds) (Paperback)
Mary Bassett the Author of this well illustrated book, is the Chairman of "The Spotted Pony Breed Society (Great Britain)". The ONLY Breed Society to embrace the concept of a Truly Native British Spotted Pony. The Society is totally dedicated and committed to preserving this natural British Breed. I believe the ponies themselves without the support of such, may well suffer by way of their existence in our world today. Just as the ponies are themselves, the book is absolutely wonderful in its every form. Anyone with an interest or love of ponies especially British Native Ponies, or even more so those with the spotted coat pattern will find this book most interesting and informative. !!!
