I enjoyed this book more than the first in this trilogy, "Rafe" mostly because Meg and Jess were more interesting characters. Meg especially was well thought out, and her struggle to take care of the people she cares about in a man's world, without subjugating herself is endearing. I liked the fact that she stands up for herself and what she thinks is right. As far as Jess, I also found him a likeable hero. He was presented as a real person, with a life outside of being an outlaw, and I found his struggle to practice medicine while on the run admirable. This book was a reward for continuing on with the series, and not giving up on it after some less then fabulous plot development in the first. Both hero and heroine again have some less then stellar descision making skills, but it is easier to forgive them because the charachters themselves are quite interesting, and it is understandable how each would reach those choices. All in all, an entertaining read with well established lives for both charachters outside of the plot line
