5.0 out of 5 stars Important book on ESP and REMOTE VIEWING, 11 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Reality of ESP: A Physicist's Proof of Psychic Abilities (Paperback)
By Russell Targ, physicist and co-founder of "remote viewing", this important book is a "proof" of ESP (and Targ has a good understanding of what proof is and about the statistics and probabilities). He demonstrates that ESP is proven "beyond all reasonable doubt" (e.g., stronger than the evidence for taking aspirin) and says the paradigm shift (Kuhn) in the scientific community (to general acceptance of ESP) may occur as the sceptics die.

This book may be Targ's last on the subject (he's 77). The bulk of the book summarises the history of remote viewing and experiments and results that are the proof of ESP; - material similar to but more extensive and rigorous than in earlier books by Targ and e.g., Joe McMoneagle. His view is that ESP is a skill everyone can develop, it is non-local (i.e., outside of and unaffected by space and time), and has been known to the sages of the east for thousands of years.

The book discusses how to think of a world in which remote viewing and ESP occur. There are brief discussions of e.g., Cartesian dualism (my words), of an 8-space (Minkowski space) model of reality that Targ believes reconciles ESP and modern science, of Buddhist and Hindu knowledge of "unobstructed or naked awareness" (their equivalent of remote viewing) and Nagarjuna's 4-valued logic (as opposed to Aristotelian logic), and Schrodinger e.g., his "My View of The World". There is excellent material in the chapter notes, bibliography and suggested reading.

Some of the material e.g., about Minkowski space and 4-valued logic is deep; I don't know if it is right. More generally, Targ sticks close to what he knows rather than risk speculations that give ammunition to sceptics. That must explain why there is little mention of mediums though he allows himself a wonderful story about Croesus testing the Delphic oracle.

This review is from: The Reality of ESP: A Physicist's Proof of Psychic Abilities (Paperback)
I am familiar with some of the work contained in Russell Targ's book, 'The Reality of ESP.' The research began in the 70's and to his credit he has remained true to his original experiment examples. He is a pragmatist with a very analytical approach to his 'equerries'. I value his integrity and appreciate his clear writing style. The information contained in this book, in my view and experience, is valid and clear. I Very highly recommend your reading this book.

This is a fact based book which I purchased after hearing the author on the Coast to Coast am radio show. If you have an interest and want to hear from someone directly involved in the American ESP project then this is for you.
