5.0 out of 5 stars Encouraging and enlightening, 1 Sep 2002

This review is from: Arts of Strength, Arts of Serenity: Martial Arts Training for Mental, Physical and Spiritual Health (Paperback)
Though less than 120 pages this is an informative and guiding book for any martial artist who is walking the seemingly uneasy and unrewarding path, seeking the discipline to continue to bring together his/her mind, body and spirit. Inspiration is supplied from the first of the pages whereby the author recounts an overview of skills and discipline of past and current masters. There is a basic outline of some of the martial arts and more importantly some explanation/clarification is supplied regarding some of the more esoteric facets of martial arts in general. The format is open and honest in that there is no simple 'quick fix' way but then anything that is really worthwhile takes honesty and commitment. Definitely a worthwhile buy.

This book should be a part of every martial artist's book collection, like Bushido, Book of Five Rings and The Art of War.

The philosophy of martial arts is set out in clear, concise explanations, without a lot of hocus-pocus. This book is hard to find, but worth the trouble. Don't be mis-led by the fact it only has 118 pages!
