This review is from: The Who's The Who Sell Out (33 1/3) (Paperback)
As a big fan of this, one of the best (IMHO) Who albums, I was looking forward to reading more about the making of this masterpiece. Unfortunately, Dougan takes the whole thing too seriously and concentrates too much on the background.

While it's reasonable to expect the author to describe the cultural context in which the album was created, it ends up taking over the book - about 25% of the book concentrates on the music and the rest is taken up by Dougan's persective on the late 60's, pirate radio, and even the foundations of the BBC.

AS Clive James once wrote (in another context) there's so much atmosphere you can't see the planet. Given all this, it's still a vital read for Who fans.
