I came to this book through the film (The public eye), based on Weegee's life. This book is a good review of his work, his life, his mentality. But of course, the best are his photographs: black and white, strong light, deep shadows...But it's not only the light. It's the people, the gansters, the police, the poor tenants, the happy holiday goers...Weegee loves them, respects them, and makes a work of art of their miserable, anonimous lives. Much like the baroque 16th century painters, he takes advantage of light, of common situations to make our heart move with tenderness, with pity and our eyes with wonder. If you love cinema, painting, detective novels, and above all if you love human kind this is your book.
