4.0 out of 5 stars Honest scientific/divulgation text, 8 Jan. 2013
This review is from: Northern Pike: Ecology, Conservation, and Management History (Hardcover)
An interesting overview of different technical aspects (see full title) on this fish. In it, the author makes the most of his own, wide research experience as well as other authors' work to show a clear and well-presented image of the "current" (as far as a book can do this) knowledge of these aspects, sometimes (in my opinion) rigidly restricted to his own area of work.

Being a biologist (have "studied" hundreds of scientific papers about pike although my work doesn't deal with this species) and an avid pike angler, I found this book very interesting and well-written. Therefore, I recommend it. Surely, anglers won't increase their catches after its reading (perhaps a little "hard" for those not familiarized with scientific texts), but they can reach a next-step as pikers. By the way, some data presented as general for pike have no application in certain areas of its range (e.g. depth movements here in Spain are fairly different of those presented here), but globally these and others can be considered, in my opinion, as simple minor inaccuracies.

For anyone interested in pike biology (proven facts, not fishermen's perceptions), this book contains valuable information and cites of many excellent articles.
