finally, an insightful book on islam and its current state. for all of the attention placed on the religion and its people, barring a few notable exceptions, we have not had a detailed analysis. this book places the reader in the heart of the muslim world, with Ahmed and a group of young americans. We hear the complaints of both the west and the current muslim leaders.
I am so tired of hearing all of the simplified explanations of what is going on in the world (good muslim/bad muslim, islamofascist/moderate,...). This book finally explained the reasons behind the turmoil and what can be done to help solve this "clash".
the answers will not come easily, but the book does offer hope in the form of a story from the journey which is sprinkled throughout the book. An ideologue from deoband (the center of orthodox islam in south asia)leads off the book telling ahmed that the killing of innocent americans is justified, then makes a radical shift by the end of the book. You will have to read the book to find out his position now.
