This review is from: Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal (Paperback)
I started listening to Eddie Trunk because he was one of the few people that played Kiss on the radio, his christmas specials about the band are just amazing, with brilliant interviews with the band and a great playlist of tracks. He is a true rock n roll fan and speak his mind openly about subjects that other fans want ti hear, such as the new kiss without ace and peter, or skid row without sebastian bach.

Some of the bands he has in the book are the following: slayer, guns n roses, tesla, poison, anthrax, megadeth, metallica, dio, rainbow, ufo, kiss, black sabbath, skid row, ozzy... If these bands sound like your thing this book is a treat.

Anybody that enjoys his radio show will love this book, it is written in a very personal way and he writes anecdotes that are just fun to read, for example when Axl Rose jumped into his studio after not having an interview for 13 years. He also recommends the essentials by bands as well as great tracks.

In fact, I discovered UFO thanks to the love this man have about theor wonderful music, and I feel a lot people will get that from the book, with many other bands tht might be discovered or records you might want to have a listen to.

Enjoy the anecdotes with some of the best bands alive, written by one of those fans that got lucky enough to get close to his idols and make a living out of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing coffee table style book, 1 April 2011

This review is from: Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal (Paperback)
I listen to Eddie Trunk's New York Friday night hard rock and heavy metal Q104 radio show every week for years off an internet radio show. If you follow the hard rock and heavy metal scene you may know that he is a leading figure in the scene - known for his support of the music he loves, unbiased views and not afraid to speak his mind when something is not right.

Anyway it's 240 pages of fabulous photos, many never seen of key bands that fit his 'Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal'. You get fantastic photos, great insight and stories. Ed has been in the scene for 30 years and knows them all. If you know of Ed from his radio show or VH1 'That Metal Show' you'll know already how musicians/bands respect this guy. He also provides a play list for each band as well which is great fun for comparison. And for price of a few pints of beer (in London) it's a total gift. This book is the sort of thing you have on the table pick up and read about a few bands while listening to music. Remember this guy knows them all so he has a few stories to tell as well (such as dressing up as a mad monk and walking onstage in front of 20,000 people to present Ozzy with a goblet.... I'll let Ed tell the rest).

All in all an amazing book. I've already bought a few CDs off the back of it and expect to buy many more.

Eddie Trunk has more knowledge about hard rock and heavy metal between his ears than Wikipedia has on a million pages. He is a fan of the bands, he`s got a friend(s) in every band there is and he knows all about them. In this book he has picked the bands he feel that has ment the most to him personally, and he writes a little about the band, what he feels about them and he`s not afraid to be criticize when he have to. You get a list of the album releases by the same bands and their current line up along with key members that has been in the band. Trunks honesy when it comes to bands and artists is really appreciated. He doesn`t follow any trend, he likes what he likes, and he can back up his statements. Usually you get the "I just don`t like" when it comes to music, but Trunk explains why he doesn`t. Not only is it a good book but if you get to hear Trunk on his radio show or see him on "That metal show" you can tell he`s a man nobody can dislike. He`s just a "good guy". Get the book, enjoy his stories about the bands and artists.
