5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent explanation of the difference between Christianity and religious humanism, 19 Nov 2011

This review is from: Fundamentalism and the Word of God (Paperback)
Packer sets out Christianity as an authoritatively revealed religion, and thus sets it in opposition to those disfigured versions of the faith which lack the essential recognition of the divine inspiration and authority of the Christian Bible. He ably defends the view that belief in the ultimate inerrancy of Scripture is no warrant for anti-intellectualism and obscurantism, whilst also making clear that liberal, humanistic conceptions of the Christian faith in which spiritual truth is relativised to human subjective opinion differs absolutely from true Christianity as Christ and the Bible declare it. He thereby rescues 'fundamentalism' from its anti-intellectual reactions to theological liberalism, whilst thoroughly exposing the latter as a total departure from authentic Christianity into various forms of sub-Christian relativism dressed up in Christian language.

This review is from: Fundamentalism and the Word of God (Paperback)
This classic is invaluable to all who want to understand and assess the view that the original Bible manuscripts were without error. It is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago, addressing objections that are popular again today. It is clear, concise, thorough and persuasive. It will be of particular help and encouragement to Christians who are struggling to articulate their faith in the authority of the Bible as God's Word.
