Gately has dephicted an oft humourous and factual report of the history of tobbaco. It is most interesting to note that the 'evils of tobacco' was recognised as early as the 1600's, and yet how powerful the industry is that it has still prevailed as a 'pleasurable' pastime today (not to mention the shameless promotions carried out by the tobacco industry in third world countries). Sad is the news that tobacco was promoted during the Great War as a means of relief (from the stress of combat') and also as a stave to hunger (81% hooked on tobacco in the end!!).
This book has loads of useful tibits of information and makes a good interesting read. Especially to an ex-smoker like me!
