5.0 out of 5 stars A clear and concise, a joy to academics and amaturs alike, 8 May 2002
By A Customer
As a student of Landscape history this book was invalueble to my studies. Williamsons wit and engaging style made this a page-turner like no other book on garden history. The author brings new insight to the study of the 'polite landscape'. Other books on the subject see the garden as isolated from the societal trends of the period this an oversight not repeated by Williamson. Garden Historians have seen the motervation behind changing garden design as purely 'fashion' this myth is expelled by a sterling agruement in favour of utility.
