5.0 out of 5 stars Reflecting the faith story through art, 27 Jan 2011
This review is from: Visual Faith: Art, Theology, and Worship in Dialogue (Engaging Culture) (Paperback)
This is a fascinating trip through the history of Christianity and of art. Dyrness goes beyond the patronage of the church for art, delving deep into the tensions between the nature of the faith as it has been undertsood and sometimes protected, and the nature of art which explores experience and meaning. If God is present in the world, then the artist will reflect that, but not just as another way of communicating dogma. This is a well-written and encouraging book. The reproduction of the illustrations is poor unfortunately.
