5.0 out of 5 stars Great book Palladium was bare as anything
The book is fantastic for detailed parts for many of the great Weather Report Tunes such as Black Market and Birdland. It's so helpful. But the very piece I wanted the music for (Palladium) it was in an unnecessarily complicated key so the chords were frankly ridiculous at times. The bass line had about 2 bars which was rubbish as it's a major part of the piece...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but maybe not what you're looking for
This book surprised me in the sense that I got all the songs it promised, but different styles of them e.g. the Birdland in this book is the live version as apposed to the recorded version which features a shuffle feel instead of the straight 8 feel, also some of the bass licks and saxophone solos aren't wrote out which may not seem like a big deal but if you are...

This review is from: Best of Weather Report: Saxophone, Keyboards, Bass & Drums/Percussion (Transcribed Scores) (Paperback)
The book is fantastic for detailed parts for many of the great Weather Report Tunes such as Black Market and Birdland. It's so helpful. But the very piece I wanted the music for (Palladium) it was in an unnecessarily complicated key so the chords were frankly ridiculous at times. The bass line had about 2 bars which was rubbish as it's a major part of the piece. Instead I transcribed it from the recording. I was so disappointed because it wasn't anywhere near as good as the other transcriptions. This was computerised and bare where the others had a hand written but clear look. If you are buying it to get Palladium don't! I hope to get someone else to put up my transcription for free as it took 2 days to complete I want others to be able to adapt it as they wish in less time it took me.
Discounting Palladium and 1 other song the transcriptions are very useful and detailed great for a mid-advanced jazz group like the one I guide at school. For the money it's great fun being able to play along to the original tracks properly.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)

This book surprised me in the sense that I got all the songs it promised, but different styles of them e.g. the Birdland in this book is the live version as apposed to the recorded version which features a shuffle feel instead of the straight 8 feel, also some of the bass licks and saxophone solos aren't wrote out which may not seem like a big deal but if you are expecting it then just be warned that some of them aren't in this book. It's not so much a bad thing, it was just surprising. I personally prefer the live shuffle version but I can imagine someone being annoyed with this book if they were expecting a 100% replication of the original,
