5.0 out of 5 stars Dungeon Board game,
This review is from: Dungeon! Board Game (Toy)This is a basic and simple beautiful game without lots and lots of rules. Go through a dungeon, kill monsters(with weapons or magic), get treasure to win. This is great for us sentimental rpg players, and a great introduction for players new to D&D.
This is the newest version of an old board game they have brought out before. I have two different older copies of this game and it keeps improving each time except for maybe one decision they made this time. In the last version it was a huge box with irrelevant art work on the front of heroes on horse back(there is no horses in the game and you are in a Dungeon)but it had basic one colour plastic figures. This game is a smaller box(but board is folded more so not smaller as such)but doesnt have plastic but card figures but this may be to keep the games price down as this is the cheapest vesion I have found. The box's feel and artwork is beautiful the contents board, card and character artwork is beautiful and very high quality. I would advise you to use figures from another similar game or buy figures instead of the card ones, but not until you see the size of the rooms and the board. The rules and board are so simple and well planned out and organised the board has some basic reminder information on the side the rules are laid out beautifully and clearly without overloading you with information. I highly recommend it for collectors and for the price of £12.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Cracking game for kids - all exploring and fighting though,
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:2.0 out of 5 starsHere is a game that has been around since the 1970s and is still fun for kids today
Your character explores dungeons on the board (so you know where you are going) and pretty much move to a space, fight the monster, collect the treasure. It works really well for many kids and is easily grasped by those from about 5y.o. - for the money it really is a great game to play. There are different types of character and different approaches to trying to win, so it stays fresh for a while (though an adult player might get frustrated at the inconsistencies in monster strengths at the different levels). The Board is nice, with some subtlety to the routes through. If the flimsy card player counters bother you then it is a nice excuse to buy some little miniatures. If the rules cause you to get stuck/frustrated (it happens sometimes) then house rule variants are common - google 'BGG Dungeon'
So why 4 stars? Well even at the low price the components are a bit cheap (be aware Amazon have listed Dungeon! in 2 places for some reason, so check to see if the other listing is cheaper). Also the game really isn't going to hold the attention of teens and adults - but if all you are after is a gateway game for kids to grow into "proper" Role Playing and Board games this is a worthy place to start

4.0 out of 5 stars Grab your flaming torch and sword...,
This review is from: Dungeon! Board Game (Toy)Great introduction to the world of Dungeons and Dragons- both my 9 year old and 12 year old love playing this game- this 39 year old enjoys it too! We use 28mm plastic miniatures instead of the cardboard figures it comes with to add a little more variety to the characters but apart from that comes with pretty much all you need to start your dungeon robbing career.
5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and great fun!,
This review is from: Dungeon! Board Game (Toy)This is a simple dungeon & monsters game that can be played together with family or friends. The premise is simple, go in, kill monsters, earn enough gold and leave. You can choose various types of heroes, some are stronger but need to collect more gold, others are weaker but require less gold. The board is laid out into various sections with "levels", meaning that you will find harder monsters in higher levels, but also more valued treasure! The dungeons have rooms and halls where you will find monsters or sometimes traps. You don't need dice to move, you can move up to 5 spaces, but you do need the dice to kill monsters. If you fail to kill a monster, the monster fights back (using dice also), which can mean either nothing happens, you loose some loot, you loose maybe a turn also, or you can get killed, which just means you begin again without any treasure. The monsters are all different which makes exploring the dungeon fun because at random you can get easy monsters or hard monsters, advancing or delaying your hero's progress... all while you watch your friends continue their treasure hoarding! Once you clear a room of monsters, that space is now explored and no other hero can find monsters or treasure there, so players must move to other rooms or levels to keep finding treasure!
I've been playing this with friends and with my daughter of 6, and we've had a lot of fun and nervous excitement at discovering new monsters or stubbornly going after the same monster to get our treasure back! The exercise of comparing dice roll values to see if the monster is killed, or the amount of treasure accumulated, has been a fun way to practice some mathematics with my daughter, while building the concepts of strategy and decision have come as a bonus while playing this game.
The game is a fun activity to introduce fantasy and competition, and the game is simple in mechanics so you don't have to learn many rules. There are options available in the web to "spice" the game a little, but the game on its own stands well. The quality is decent for the price and beautifully colored, although the cards and the figures will wear with time. There is a need to find some way to store the cards and pieces for easy setup, but I just use plastic sandwich bags.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun roleplaying lite game for everyone,
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dungeon! Board Game (Toy)I played loads of roleplaying games when I was a kid, so I was keen to get my own children into the hobby as soon as they were old enough. Someone recommended this to me as a way in, and I have to say that I'm hooked (as is my 7 year old boy!)
The mechanics of the game are simple enough - you move around the board, entering rooms and fighting monsters. The fights are based on a very simple dice-rolling system, and if you win, you get some treasure. The first person to get the correct amount of treasure and to get back to the centre of the board is the winner.
Like many simple board games it's a lot of fun to play. When someone is defeated, and drops treasure, there's a mad scramble by the other players to pick it up. When a monster card is first turned over (when you enter a room), there's often a sigh of relief or worry from the player who has to fight it (depending how easy it is). There are hidden doors, traps, shortcuts, magic spells, and much more.
My only real criticism is that games with lots of people can take a long time to complete, but this is easy to overcome by reducing the required amount of treasure to be collected.
Excellent fun, cheap to buy, and appealing to all ages. A great game.

4.0 out of 5 stars One introduction to Dungeons & Dragons,
This review is from: Dungeon! Board Game (Toy)I consider this game a nice introduction to Dungeon & Dragons world, especially for kids. This game have few and easy rules that are really easy for kids to understand, and it's fun.
The only bad-side to this game is the case, that doesn't have places to hold the peace's and the cards from the game.
