Waited for ages for the new book in the series, and this one doesn't disappoint.

The characters have been built very well across the series giving you an insight into their motivations and emotions in all situations. You really care about each and every one of them.

The tension within each scenario is built and maintained brilliantly and just makes you want to read more and more - I often found myself at the end of the train journey to work not realising how much time had passed, and hoping to read just that bit more.

The book stands well on its own, but I would recommend each book in the series (in order - "No Mercy", "Hostage Zero" and "Threat Warning"). I would also recommend "At All Costs" and "Nathan's Run" by the same author, which are stand alone thrillers and fantastic.

Can't wait for the next one in the series.

This review is from: Damage Control (Jonathan Grave Thrillers) (Mass Market Paperback)
The fourth (I think) in the Jonathan 'Digger' Grave series. Since one buys these books for the pure escapism within an action packed storyline, then you'll not be disappointed with this one.

Grave is in the Mexican jungle attempting to deliver a ransom of 3 million dollars and retrieve the busload of teenagers previously kidnapped when his actions are thwarted by another team intent on wrecking the whole idea. Too bad for Grave that he and Boxers are the intended target as well as the elimination of any witnesses.

Not unexpectedly, they survive the ambush and set out with their one remaining hostage to return to the USA. Not as easy as it should be. The local drug baron has a finger in the pie, the FBI has yet another maniac running the show who is connected to the drug baron and then there's the local militia similarly connected and determined to 'kill the gringos'. (They didn't say that, it just seemed appropriate!)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch or more commonly known as the HQ for Security Solutions Grave's team is pushing all the right buttons to help him escape the country and return home. In the meanwhile, the original kidnapping was not all that it seemed with the Crystal Palace church desperate for cash and a desire to risk the wrath of God on Judgement Day. All of this is a convoluted FBI attempt to kill off Grave. Given the ease which they manage to bump off others, I've no idea why they didn't just dispose of him when it was convenient but then we wouldn't have had a story to read.

So, don't expect a literary work of art, don't waste time rationalizing the story content, don't worry that money is spent like water to achieve an objective, don't worry that the Church isn't all it's cracked up to be; none of this matters if you're up for a good read, plenty of action mostly non-stop and a body count, mainly Mexican which probably tops the list so far this year in such novels.

We know Grave and his team will be back because there is included with the book the first chapter of the 2013 release. Put me down for a copy, please.

Enjoyable read which makes me want to read more in the series. Some of the chapters are a bit over the top but it is fiction after all
