J. Hancock - See all my reviews
This review is from: Daken/X-23: Collision (Daken: Dark Wolverine) (Hardcover)
Picked this up as I'm thoroughly enjoying Marjorie Liu's writing for the current run of X-23 but got to it a bit late, and this collects issues 7 to 9 (as well as Daken: Dark Wolverine #5-9 and material from Wolverine: Road To Hell). After reading a bit about Daken I wasn't really looking forward to his part in this, but I'm pleased to say I was wrong about the character - yes he's murderous, ruthless and sadistic, but the point is that you find yourself, if not warming, then at least being fascinated by him in spite of yourself, plus you're always wondering what he's really plotting; there are a couple of nice twists that you might see coming (although I didn't) but which are satisfying nonetheless.

In addition, Liu's writing for X-23 and Gambit is ace, and reason enough to purchase this collection. if I had one tiny complaint it would be that that the set-up for the main event is a little bit lengthy, but all in all it's worth it. Also it means you can enjoy this collection without knowing much about the preceding story (although reading the characters' Wikipedia pages wouldn't hurt).

If you enjoy this I heartily recommend X-23 Volume 1: The Killing Dream which collects X-23 #1-6.
