5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! The New Economy and how to invest in it.
I have been working in the high tech field for 15 years and must admit I didn't do a great deal of investing in it. I feel so STUPID now, after reading Murphy's book. If only I had sat down and thought through some of the facts. So much of what he says I knew was true, but his genius is in what he does with the basic facts. I am convinced here lies great wealth...

I am convinced here lies great wealth. Growth flow and how it considers R&D spending is so simple, and like so many simple thoughts, very powerful. I hesitate to say too much, because in one sense I don't want to let the word out, but it already is. So my advice is to read it!
I can't say enough good things about this book. I have an MBA from a well recognized business school and this is simply the best book on investing I have ever read , and I've read a few. A must read for anyone who wants to be in charge of their investing destiny well into the next century.
Buy, borrow or relieve someone you know of this book!

Although interesting, a book can be outdated quickly on technology. Buy book, but read other sources before purchasing tech stocks in book. Mr. Murphy is a well known writer and financial speaker at various money shows and has written a book that could be outdated quickly.Check web pages for losses incurred by more experienced tech investors. A thread on Silicon Investor is dedicated to CTSL and former subscribers. Read book, but buy on caution. In fact, get book on sale or from library. Check Boston Globe's and other investment site searches before investing money on recommendations. Author appears frequently at money and investment shows.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Teck Stock Book, 8 Jan. 1998
By A Customer
This is a well-organized and insightful book on technology stocks and how to invest in them. Murphy's thesis is that R&D is what makes tech companies unique, and he adjusts P/E's for R&D for what he calls "growth flow". BioTech stocks are rated by an "M" score that compares the stock price to the amount of R&D per share. Coverage of mutual funds is sparse; this is really a stock-investing book. I have also read Ginaturco's "How to Buy Technology Stocks" book; Murphy's book is much more specific both about the technology and his stock-selection methods. While Gianturco is qualitative, Murphy is quantitative and more thorough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone thinking of buying high tech stocks, 13 April 1998
By A Customer
Murphy gives a very concise means of evaluating these difficult to value companies based primarily on their 12 month trailing EPS and past fiscal year expenditures on R&D, that one expense that will make or break a high technology company.
Anyone that is thinking of buying stocks of high tech companies should read this book to gain insight into the best means of placing a value on the company in question to know when the price is right for that company.
Traditional means of valuation are just not valid for these companies according to Murphy.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST book for picking the winners in high-tech stocks, 23 Nov. 1998
By A Customer
I read michael murphey's High-tech stocks & mutual funds (first eddition). It was a wonderful book about technology stocks. He has described what is high-tech stocks and how to pick the winners etc.. in detail and has provided good strategies. I think he (Mr.Murphy) has to review again his recommended stocks for blue-chips 2010 list. Some of them are not good for today. Anyhow I am waiting for his Second Edition eagerly...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great insights, 31 Aug. 1998
By A Customer
This book is both well organized and complete for any novice investor wishing to gain industry "insights". Murphy's growth-flow model is a common sense way of comparing technology companies to one another. The explanation of the semiconductor-inventory cycle and the book-to-bill ratio are a must for anyone investing in semi stocks.
