4.0 out of 5 stars Mud mining and death under London, 2 Jun 2003
This sequel to 'The Borribles' is likely to stay with anyone who reads it for a long time. I read it well over 20 years ago and still have nightmares about mining the mud under London. Looking at the mud banks at the edges of the Thames on my way into work always brings to mind Knocker, Adolf and the others. Now that I live a couple of hundred yards from the river Wandle it has all taken on new significance too.
This is a story of survival, sacrifice, honour, courage and duty that should be back on all school curiculums. The writing is exemplary and the power of the story unmatched in almost any other children's book I ever read. I look forward to reading it again soon!

4.0 out of 5 stars Childhood classic, 7 July 2013

These nasty little Londoners are a bit close to the bone. Vicious sub race of human kids who never grow up and fight against rats and the rozzers to survive . You will look at sewers differently in the future in London! A gripping read. Beware foul language. Bit of violence was well. Not for very sensitive kids.
