If you are looking for gentle wisdom to help you use silence as prayer then this is the book for you.
O'Rourke has decades of experience in christian meditation and he uses stories, examples and ideas to inspire and encourage.
This little book is a gem. I return to it often and value it highly. I have recommended it unreservedly and always received positive feedback.

This is a book I discovered on the shelves of the bookshop in the Friends Meeting House in London.
Having read it from cover to cover, I then went straight back to the beginning and read it again.
I now use it as a daily guide to my periods of prayer and meditation and it is truly invaluable.
The several copies that I have subsequently bought through Amazon are to be gifts to 2 friends about to be ordained to the Church of Scotland ministry as their Ordination gift from me . I feel sure they will find it every bit as inspirational as I have.
I have read other reviews from other readers in your pages in Amazon and completely concur with their delight in this beautiful book by Benignus O`Rourke.
I cannot recommend it too highly to anyone who values their deepening in their spiritual life.

Father O'Rourke's collection of readings on the way of silent prayer really hit the spot with me. The chapters are short and I usually read one to prepare for silent prayer. It seems very alive and vital compared to other books I have read of a similar kind. It is a very varied book drawing on many sources and including many anecdotes, from St Augustine and other mystics to the most ordinary and humble folk he has met along the way. It is helpful to learn from the experiences of others. Each chapter has been a new delight and a new encouragement. I thoroughly recommend it.

I have been practising silent (contemplative) prayer for 3 years, inspired particularly by Thomas Merton, Thomas Keating & Cynthis Bourgeault. I will read this gem of a book over and over in the next 3 months. It is beautifully simple, yet inspiring,
