This book was recommended to me by a university lecturer in digital imaging. The big advantage is that everything is illustrated sort of WYSIWYG in reverse - what you see on the page is what you get on the screen. For complete beginners and hobby photographers its perfect now that software manufacturers don't supply manuals and a lot easier than trying to run an on-line tutorial on the same monitor as you're trying to sort out your image on.

I really like the way all the topics are so well explained and illustrated - as you would expect from the title! If you are feeling daunted about learning Photoshop, this book will help you enormously to master its tools and techniques and to produce satisfying results. And it shows you how to do many original creative things and not just editing existing photographs. I have been using most of Photoshop's functions for some time now, but have not yet conquered the mystery of masks. So I was very disappointed to find this book does not contain anything at all on this important subject. It is definitely not the only Photoshop book you will ever need, but as a way of learning the basics it is outstanding.
