I doubt anyone will read this because there are other database development books with much higher ratings. Anyway, this book opens with a very good description of a general development method for databases. If most projects used this approach there would be far fewer failed projects. There is a description of some of the general design concepts but these are given a light touch and not explained in great depth e.g. normalisation.
It then describes two design methods based on the Entity Relationship Model and the Semantic Object Model which provide a top-down or bottom-up approach respectively. They are pretty well explained but like a lot of books, no mention of the dreaded recursive relationsip.
The book then goes on to show you how to take the chosen model into a design and then implement it in MS Access or SQL Server. Overall it's pretty good and the Entity Relationship section did actually help me on a project. However, you will need more if you are a serious db developer.
