This review is from: CAMP WOMENTHE: The Female Auxiliaries Who Assisted the SS in Running the Nazi Concentration Camp System (Schiffer Military History) (Hardcover)
I was put off buying the book due to the other review posted on here but thought i would give it a go and so bought it. I am currently writing a dissertation about women in the SS and found the book extremely useful. It provides lists of SS staff members, with information regarding to DOB, where they worked etc. Another very good part of this book are the numerous number of primary sources, for example a photocopy of an exam which women would need to answer in order to get a job in the SS. This book alone provides much information, but when used alongside Brown's other book (The Beutiful Beast, the life and crimes of Irma Grese) they provide a wonderful account of women in the SS. It is important to note however, that this book is mostly bare facts and information about the women. Daniel Patrick Brown is arguably the leading expert when it comes to women of the SS and i would most definately reccomend this book IF THE PRICE WAS LOWER. The cost is very off putting for the information provided, i suggest getting to a library rather than buying it!
