4.0 out of 5 stars Great overview of marine aquarium chemistry, 16 Feb 2003

This review is from: Water Chemistry for the Marine Aquarium (Paperback)
If you have some basic high school chemistry then that's about all you need to understand this book. It gives the basic principles of what's going on in your marine aquarium - covering, amongst other subjects, the nitrogen cycle, maintaining calcium levels, pH and alkalinity.
If you want to know a bit more about the 'whys' to help understand how to maintain the balance then this book is a great helper and excellent value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bargin, Bargin, Bargin., 31 Dec 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Water Chemistry for the Marine Aquarium (Paperback)
This book is amazing value. Its a short chemistry lesson but not too complicated. If you know that Marine fish live in salt-water and what pH is you'll be fine. If you want to keep marine fish you will be in a much better position if you read and undertand this book before you buy. Plus it has the added bonus of a good number of high quality picutres and diagrams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as easy as some might suggest, 5 July 2008
This review is from: Water Chemistry for the Marine Aquarium (Paperback)
This is a small book covering a very big subject in a fair amount of detail. What it cuts out is the gentle learning curve and it gets straight down to business. That's great but makes the book initially quite intimidating, especially if you pick it up and start from the middle!
Don't let it put you off though, stick the book next to the loo and read a few paragraphs each day - even repeating the same ones - until it all sinks in and it will significantly enhance your understanding.

An excellent book for those wanting a bit more in depth understanding of what chemical reactions go on in a marine fish tank.
Some of it is quite complex and takes a bit of understanding to get your head around, but a lot of the information is well written and easily understood by anyone with a basic understanding of marine tank water chemistry.
A great addition to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must" for the home aquarist, 2 April 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Water Chemistry for the Marine Aquarium (Paperback)
This is a great book for the home aquarist, which should not feel threatned by the title: there's no need for a degree in chemistry to understand the contents. Although the book focuses on the marine aquarium, it also has very useful information for the freshwater aquarium. There are no misterious "never do" phrases; if there's a good reason to do (or not) something, it is clearly explained. The book also has an impressive set of photos of marine fish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reference Book, 18 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Water Chemistry for the Marine Aquarium (Paperback)
This little book deals with the basics of water chemistry. It's a useful little book to have handy but if you require in depth knowledge of water chemistry for the reef keeper I'm sure you could find better.
