Now, this is quite an interesting concept. A bit late for me, mind, what with my overindulgence in tattoos, back in the eighties However, should you have a bit more vacant skin than me, then what better than a guide to tattoos, which comes with no less than 150 temporary tattoos for you to try out!
Author Russ Thorne has a bit of form here, as editor and author of "The Temporary Tattoo Directory for Guys", "Mythical & Spiritual Tattoo Directory", and "Body Piercing: The Body Art Manual". So he knows his stuff, and has a casual but readable style of writing.
You get a bit of history, showing how tattoos evolved from the world of biker and sailor to become a rather mundane and poorly executed part of mainstream society. There are explanations of the symbolism and meanings behind tattoos, some fantastic photographs and illustrations, which highlight some amazing tattoos, as well as some truly awful ones.
The tattoo transfers have actually been designed by real tattoo artists, so its a step up from the pound shop ones you wore as a wean. The interviews with tattooists are succinct and interesting, and this is definitely a book you could gift to the illustrated man or woman in your life. Just don't blame me if your savings get blown as a result!
