WARNING. This is the two previously published Confederation books reprinted with a new name, and both books under one cover. If you have not already read them, then they are a cracking good read. If you have already read them - then you don't need this one.

A Confederation of Valor is the an Omnibus edition consisting of Valor's Choice (Book 1) and The Better Part of Valor (Book 2) of the Confederation Series.
I really enjoyed this book and have already purchased the The Heart of Valor (Book 3)in the series.
For any person who has served time in the military and has had to deal with officers and ratings will understand the humor in this book.
As a Staff Sergeant Torin Kerr is a career military NCO in the Confederation space marines.
In Valor's Choice Staff Sergeant Kerr and her platoon are sent on a diplomatic mission which turns into a fight for survival.
In The Better Part of Valor Staff Sergeant Kerr and a select group of recon marines are sent in to investigate an alien space ship.
In both books the action is fast paced, the humor is marvelous, and the author is able to make the characters come to life

A friend lent me this 2-novel volume, and around page 110 I was ready to give up - but it's necessary scene-setting and character introduction. A few pages later, it took off and was terrific from there on. The main characters are a multi-species military force, and they all behave like *people* - meaning jokes, back-biting, rule-bending, task-avoidance, sexual badinage, honour and courage. The characters act and sound like what they are supposed to be, and there's a lot of humour wrapped around the fighting, interspecies sex problems and so forth. As I re-read favourite books, I recently bought my own copy and enjoyed it just as much on second reading.

The second novel in the same binding is a follow-on, with several common characters and a totally different problem. That's one of the nice things about this series: the characters are marines doing marine tasks, but the plots are all different - no re-treads here.

I really enjoy reading Tanya Huff's books! They are light hearted and fast paced with engaging characters. A Confederation of Valour is well worth a read.

Based on the above reviews, purchased 4 books in this series, largely because someone said it was a similar style to the Death Head style books.

Its not!

Does not even come close.

These are not written in the first person, they are not page turners, and they are not constant action, instead, they are a boring monotonous account of useless information used to pad the books.

The first book was not bad, 3-4 stars, developing the plot and the main character was interesting, the second book within this omnibus was a waste of paper.

Dreadfully boring, find yourself wishing for greater interaction and interweaving of character that are not stuck on the alien space ship, as those on board wander around in circles trying to find their way off the ship...gosh what a dull plot.
