5.0 out of 5 stars Love, love, love this book
I first read this book years ago. Since then I've read it I don't know how many times. I even got it signed by Ms Parks herself.

Playing Away follows Martha and Eliza Evergreen, two very different sisters. Eliza wants Martha's grown up lifestyle of dinner parties, marriage and motherhood and leaves her un-ambitious long term boyfriend, Greg. On the same day,...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not her best
I have finished this book today so as usual hopped on Amazon the give it my review. This is the 4th Adele Parks book i have read but i found it the least enjoyable so far. It was very well written and very well observed but i found it all very predictable and bit far fetched to be honest. This simply wouldn't happen, this amazing guy that she ends up with is just too...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, love, love this book, 23 Jan. 2013
This review is from: The Other Woman's Shoes (Paperback)
I first read this book years ago. Since then I've read it I don't know how many times. I even got it signed by Ms Parks herself.

Playing Away follows Martha and Eliza Evergreen, two very different sisters. Eliza wants Martha's grown up lifestyle of dinner parties, marriage and motherhood and leaves her un-ambitious long term boyfriend, Greg. On the same day, Martha's husband, Michael, leaves her without explanation. Eliza moves in with Martha and their roles are instantly reversed. While Eliza spends her time babysitting and dating Martha's stuffy, pretentious friends, Martha is thrust into the life of London nightclubs and mind-blowing sex with carefree Jack Hope.

This is pure, unashamed, unadulterated chick lit. Whilst it follows two different central characters, it keeps the chick-lit narrative of finding love, losing it and finding it again. Martha and Jack are a great match and I couldn't help but fall for him a little. Although Eliza's character is somewhat overshadowed by her sister's, it's a perfect counterbalance and her dating disasters provided some great entertainment. It's sexy, funny and in places, very raw. I was lucky enough to meet Adele in person and she said it's the most autobiographical book she's written; it shows.

Who would enjoy this? Anyone who loves chick-lit packed full of ups and downs, laughter and tears, and a copious amount of sex.

I have finished this book today so as usual hopped on Amazon the give it my review. This is the 4th Adele Parks book i have read but i found it the least enjoyable so far. It was very well written and very well observed but i found it all very predictable and bit far fetched to be honest. This simply wouldn't happen, this amazing guy that she ends up with is just too amazing and for me that spoils it really - because you know life is not like that. I much preferred the character of Greg who is what an actual man is like LOL .... dont get me wrong this is a good story but i totally guessed how it would end and was disappointed by that because its not real life. I wish it was!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars okish but predictable, 20 Jan. 2013
This review is from: The Other Woman's Shoes (Paperback)
I have given it a 2* as I did finish the book, it was very predictable and what really annoyed me, Martha was having rampant sex all over the house at various times of the day and yet had a baby and a toddler, being a mum of 2 myself I don't know where she found the time or energy not to mention presumably very sleepy children

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant, 10 Jun. 2012

This is the first Adele Parks book I have read and I have got to say I loved it! I will definately be downloading her other books. I was looking for a funny/romantic read and that is exactly what it was. It is one of them books you can't put down but at the same time don't want it to finish.

2.0 out of 5 stars Gave up half way through, 4 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a charming read but I rarely read in this genre. I was interested in reading something different but I'm afraid it didn't hold my attention and I stopped reading after I got about half-way through. That said, it is a lovely story - just not really my thing.

Fact....the sun will rise in the morning, and when my alarm goes off, so will I!!!
Fact....we all want each others hair/boobs/clothes/boyfriends/ wisdom etc etc.
Fact....hindsight is 20/20 vision wise

And, I WILL SURVIVE......again, but this time I will apply my learning!!!

Fact...Adele Parks is incapable of writing a crap book, thank god I can at least rely on that!!!! Xxx
