Brilliant story telling - his usual mix of fact and fiction - well researched - first class ! ! !

Excellent read, will certainly read more of this author. He is now a new one to add to my list.

I have read quite a few of Simon Scarrow's books and can honestly say this is one of the best.

Not as good as other 'scarrow' books, boring in parts , slow and cumbersome plots, will delete it as I have no desire to read it again.

Not his usual style, was too easy to put down. Hope this is not the start of a series. Poor.

Sword and Scimitar
What a disappointment this book is. I was big fan of the Eagle series until Praetorian, which was below par, and my worst fears were realised with Sword and Scimitar. Sir Thomas is such an irritating character and the love story between him and Maria is so predictable its laughable. And as for the revelations about Richard, well my 8 year old granddaughter could see that one coming.
I did enjoy the battle sections, at least the author is still on form there and I appreciate the amount of research that has gone in to the siege of Malta. But, please Mr Scarrow, don't become the next Bernard Cornwell, churning a mediocre formulaic historical novel once a year, you are much better than that.

Generally a good read. A little slow in places, but overall worth the time and effort.
