I actually have the very lastest 2012 edition, which arrived today, first impressions were good, due to the size and the amount of things covered, it is indeed a great guide for any newbie wanting to learn about the many facets of photography, from exposure, metering and apertures thru to panorama's and hdr.

I actually have the very lastest 2012 edition, which arrived today, first impressions were good, due to the size and the amount of things covered, it is indeed a great guide for any newbie wanting to learn about the many facets of photography, from exposure, metering and apertures thru to panorama's and hdr.

It is a very well laid out & logical book, with lots of very good colourful photo's etc, it's big and heavy & looks as if it'll stand the test of time.

Sadly though for 2012 book it is very dated, for starters it features the Nikon D40x, Canon S5 is, windows xp/vista & mentions Elements version 6 as being the latest, all these are now in a museum, it's also quite biased towards Canon & Nikon dslr wise, 5 years ago these 2 "were" the big players however in addition to Sony & Pentax producing some excellent kick ass dslrs (e.g the A77 wipes the floor with the 60d & can hold it's own against the much dearer 7d), csc's have not only arrived on the scene but now probably outsell dslrs, csc's are not featured at all.

Which leads me to this conclusion: it is a very well crafted high quality book, which sadly has'nt kept up with the pace of the camera/software industry, in short; nice book pity it's a very lazy rendition of a previous edition.
