The atmosphere in this book is well created and its a less dense read than The Angels' Game or Shadow of the Wind mainly because of a different target audience. I thoroughly enjoyed it but have a nagging feeling that Zafon is going to be limited in the types of books he writes. Many of the images, excellent though they are, can be found in his other books. I'd like to read more Zafon but fear that I will end up reading reworkings of the same story over and over again.

I got this because I had enjoyed Shadow of the Wind and the Angel's Game. It is a good story but lacks a certain something in the way it is told. Somehow, for me, it lacked the atmosphere of the two adult-oriented books. Perhaps this is because it is a children's book. I would suggest that it may be suitable for early teens.

Definitely, not his best by far but overall, you will enjoy this 'light story'. The genre is from the same 'veine' as his future book such as shadow of the wind. Just remember the audience for this book was directed at young audience.

Delivery and packaging of this item was excellent. The blurb suggests that this book is for children and grown ups. I have to disagree. It is an average children's book and not very inspiring. It is also not good value for money.

Stephen King's "It" for young teenagers.... I somehow missed that this is aimed at the "young adult" market, so found it overly simplistic with one-dimensional characters, unconvincing dialogue, and plot devices that made little sense.

Granted, it is a bit of a page-turner - and young teens interested in mystery/horror may enjoy it - but it didn't have much teen/adult crossover appeal for me.
