This review is from: 23 Sweet FAs: Round the World with a Football Table (Paperback)
This book is not only for lovers of football, but those with a passion for travelling and adventure! I found it funny, very well written and a brilliant true story of the author's adventure from London to South East Asia overland carrying a football table. It set my imagination alight -I loved every minute of it and would have no hesitation recommending this book!

WHAT A BOOK!WHAT A BOOK! This diary of three normal ordinary blokes legendary idea to travel around the world with a football table is one of the best books i have ever read full stop. Not only is the detail excellent but the comedic value will have you laughing all the way through the book and even though i have only spoken to them through e-mail they seem as amazing in real life as they are in the book.PLEASE BUY THIS BOOK YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Not many books make me laugh, but I've found myself chortling away to this account of one man and his footballing mission. Better still the tractor boys even get a bit of a mention. The chronicles of an amazing achievement.

A Fantastic Story,

This review is from: 23 Sweet FAs: Round the World with a Football Table (Paperback)
I bought the book at Heathrow and finished it half way through the flight. It was excellent. I can't thank you enough for producing such an awesome memento of the trip.Books don;t usually make me laugh, but on a couple of bits i was pissing myself, much to annoyance of the people sat next to me. It really brought memories and i thought you were really fair and accurate in desribing what happened. I hope this catches on and you get the recognition you deserve.

This book is such a fab read - and, being female, I never thought I'd say that about a book about football - but I can't put it down. Andy so cleverly describes the places he visits and the people he meets along the way - that I could imagine myself right there with him. Its quite ingenious how a seemingly silly idea became such a success. It just goes to show what a person can do if they have the balls to "got for it"!This guy is wasted as a City lawyer - he is far too witty and has far too much oomph to be wasting his time on law! He should definitely be on the next series of The Apprentice! My advice re this book - buy two copies cos once you've started reading you'll realise its so good you'll want your best friend, your family, your neighbours, in fact just about anyone you know to read this book as its too good a tale to miss out on

Absolutely Fantastic!,

This review is from: 23 Sweet FAs: Round the World with a Football Table (Paperback)
The book captivates you as Andy Sloan and his travelling companions head to Japan. The universal love of football (and the table) overcome language barriers, bring smiles to people's faces and generates enormous amounts of goodwill. It is the people that Andy meets along the way and the stories that he tells about them that make this book. The title and the teasers do not do the book justice. Not only because Andy Sloan visited more than 23 FAs on his journey, he achieved a lot more.

This review is from: 23 Sweet FAs: Round the World with a Football Table (Paperback)
This is an excellent read, containing all the elements of a great travel story - adventure, comedy, blagging and of course football! It is very well written and takes the reader on a journey through 26 countries, while reflecting on the highs and lows of football and Englands progress through the 2002 World Cup. The author's pursuit of a crazy dream and unwillingness to buckle, results in an escalating adventure culminating in the World Cup Final in Japan. Best book I've read this year.

A humourous football inspired travelogue,
By Twazzer (Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 23 Sweet FAs: Round the World with a Football Table (Paperback)
Inspired by a typical, drunken student boast, Andy Sloan takes his football table and travels across the world challenging key football figures and random geezers alike to game of table football along the way to the 2002 World Cup finals.Amusing and irreverent, 23 Sweet FA's clearly shows Sloan as a top man with a passion for the World's Beautiful Game. Full of anecdotes and wry observations, this is fun book which tells the story of an unusual story which reveals the generous side to football that is clearly shown by the sheet amount of people willing to help Sloan on his way to the World Cup FInal. A fine story, well-worth reading!

Awesome book. Such a simple idea - that becomes the most amazing story of the universal love of football. From inauspicious beginnings heading into France he hits more than just 23 FAs, meets Pele and Sven, beats countless players at their own game, having an adventure and a half.If you like football, or you enjoy travel, or you can simply read - you'll love this book. Also make a great pressie for a footie-loving mate! |
