4.0 out of 5 stars A worthwile read if you are a fan of 70's cops shows, 27 Sept. 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Shut it!: Fan's Guide to 70's Cops on the Box (Paperback)
A comical read if you love those excellent 1970's cops shows The Sweeney & The Professionals. A comical analysis of each episode with bit by bit break downs including how much scotch is drunk by Jack Regan, or what Ray Doyle cokes in his kitchin. As long as you like each show, you'll love the humour this book creates.
It does slate the bad episodes, which may upset the die hard fans and it has some little errors and blips but otherwise, its a great book.

4.0 out of 5 stars We're the Sweeney, son, and we haven't had any dinner., 1 May 2013

This review is from: Shut it!: Fan's Guide to 70's Cops on the Box (Paperback)
The internet has more or less killed off the unofficial episode guide book but in the nineties Virgin books, in particular, churned them out for just about everything but Chorlton and the Wheelies. This book covers the complete Sweeney and Professionals including the two Sweeney films (thankfully, it predates the ludicrous remake). Each episode receives a brief synopsis followed by a breakdown of various notable features including shooters, cars, fashion disasters and quotable dialogue. The Professionals episodes even get a section called 'Doyle cooks a bit of pasta' highlighting the often laughable attempts to portray Martin Shaw's character as a sensitive New Man. The book is affectionate and happy to give credit for genuine excellence rather than just take the rise. Is it a must read? - probably not but it is enjoyable to dip into particularly when deciding whether to record a re run episode on Dave.
