Stonkingly good read. Mr. Nickson is a great storyteller and a master at painting a glorious picture of times long gone with his words.
Great stuff.

Saw this in our local bookshop, thought it would be interesting as we live in Chesterfield. Enjoyed it very much, just wish there had been a small map to show the area.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most satisfying read, 14 April 2014

This novel was a most satisfying read, and by far my favourite of all the books written by this author that I have read so far. The Crooked Spire gave me everything I prefer in a story - love, laughter, suspense and some heart-in-my-throat scenes. The writing is generous, flooding my mind with imagery so alive that I could almost smell and touch certain parts of the church, market and surrounding countryside. I am hoping this is the first in a new series.

4.0 out of 5 stars another series with any luck, 21 Jan 2014

well written, adequately plotted with at least one fairly realised character--in himself interesting enough, both complex and pleasant enough to want to spend time with. A good many potential lines of development already written in (consciously or not--hard to say) for the characters and their interaction without distortion.
