4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth a read, 7 Aug 2014

This review is from: Written in Blood: A Cultural History of the British Vampire (Paperback)
This is a bold and groundbreaking book, clearly written with much enthusiasm for the subject. I couldn't help feeling that this 'cultural' approach might work even better with ghosts, which are probably more readily accepted as a suitable subject than the slightly more contentious notion that vampires might be a reality. Nevertheless, a good read with a very good section on Hammer films and an excellent one on the Highgate mystery. Additionally as a collector of 'pulp' fiction paperbacks myself, I was heartened to see credit given to the much underrated NEL paperbacks of the 70s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Written in Blood is "bloody" marvellous, 14 July 2014
This review is from: Written in Blood: A Cultural History of the British Vampire (Paperback)
Paul certainly loves his vampires. From historic cases like the Croglin and Highgate vampires to the technicolor blood of Hammer horror films, this book has the lot. It even goes in depth into "real" vampires like John Haigh, who was the infamous Acid Bath murderer. I am really impressed with this book and would recommend it to anyone who has a "healthy" interest in vampires and maybe those with a "unhealthy" interest in vampires. I give it five out of five because I love vampires and Paul loves them too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody Good, 18 Aug 2014
This a bloody good book, -excuse the pun-. It is an extremely well written history of all you would want to know, fact and fiction, about the British Vampire. Intelligent, informative and quite disturbing. Adams knows his subject inside out. Highly recommended.
