5.0 out of 5 stars The last ocean liner., 21 Oct 2008

This review is from: QE2: A Photographic Journey (Hardcover)
A beautifully layed out and illustrated book which will appeal to everyone who has fondness and affection for the most magnificent and recogniseable liner of all time.

Whether you have sailed the oceans on her, or admired her across the world from her ports of call, this book will delight in the abundance of superb photographs, clear informative narrative and hillarious anecdotes such as the little caption: "The laundrette on Deck 3 is considered by many passengers and crew as being the most dangerous room aboard. More arguments break out there than in any other room."

A pogniant afterword written by Captain Ian McNaught concludes the book, his final heartfelt words will perhaps bring a tear to the eye.

I think it is thoroughly regrettable she has been sold to Dubai World. She may be elderly but her looks are timeless. She can still show the "youngsters" a clean pair of heels. Her final home should not be in some distant land.

'QE2 A Photographic Journey', is a moving and fitting tribute to the Queen of the Seas.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best QE2 book for holding onto your memories of times on board!, 2 Jan 2009

This review is from: QE2: A Photographic Journey (Hardcover)
This wonderful book gave me exactly what I wanted - a way to remember the QE2 as she was in her last few years. I can look at the wonderful photos and conjure up happy memories at each of the locations shown around the ship.
This book would make a great gift for someone who loved to travel on the QE2. Its not a full-on 'anorak' reference book, just a nice way to remember the greatest ship of all time!

5.0 out of 5 stars QE2: A Photographic Journey, 17 Dec 2009
This review is from: QE2: A Photographic Journey (Hardcover)
This book really does show you what it says on the cover!
As you turn the pages, it soon becomes clear that the photographs have been taken at a thoughtful walking pace. This allows plenty of time for you to discover exactly why Queen Elizabeth 2 has been recognised as 'the most famous and finest ocean-going liner in the world'
'The QE2 - A Photographic Journey' should attract a wide ranging readership - fulfilling QE2's strong need to be remembered. The authors have gone to considerable lengths to make sure that this can happen.
The sense of exploration is well conveyed - QE2's engines, Bridge and other places, usually out of bounds, these are here for all to see. A well written narrative that complements the pictures; together with the detailing of QE2's history, and important contributions by those who also hold QE2 in great affection - these add up to making the book an impressive reflection of the ship. QE2 - simply the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars QE2 - A Photographic Journey, 4 May 2009
This review is from: QE2: A Photographic Journey (Hardcover)
The book is very well presented with most pertinent and interesting written information and superb colour photographs. The 'behind the scenes' photographs add depth to the whole ship profile in this book.

A true keepsake item to remember a remarkable ocean liner.

Ideal coffee table or library book for reference and casual interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars QE2 A Photographic Journey, 30 May 2010

I found this book easy to read, beautifully illustrated and in my opinion it would be of interest to both those who have sailed on the QE2 and to those who have admired her from afar but have never had the pleasure on sailing on her. There is a brief introduction and some historic details of the ship before you are welcomed aboard to begin your photographic journey. The author then uses a good mix of photographs and text to guide you through the different areas of the ship giving details about the accommodation, public areas, restaurants and even some behind the scenes photos and information. I particularly liked how the author has incorporated snippets of "did you know" information throughout the book. For example "The QE2 was the longest serving flagship of the Cunard Line, holding the title from 1969 to 2005" It is unfortunate that we can no longer sail on this magnificent ship but "QE2 a Photographic Journey" helps to keep her memory alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just had to say something..., 24 Dec 2011
This review is from: QE2: A Photographic Journey (Hardcover)
After reading the review by "Simon" I just had to say something myself, because this is an absolutely gorgeous book with magnificent photographs of QE2 - it is, exactly what it says it is: A Photographic Journey of the QE2.

The book, which is clearly very nicely photographed is well worth the price-tag. Each room is photographed sans people making the rooms appear fantastic, elegant and the images are very clear! I'm not sure what kind of camera "Simon" has on his phone, but these images are clearly taken with a quality digital camera as they are colourful and clear with a depth of attention that these books have become known for.

The book's blurb, both on the jacket cover and here on Amazon, tell buyers exactly what to expect - it's a photographic journey aboard QE2. The book also includes a short history of QE2 and delightful little quotes, quips and snippets from her Captain and crew.

I bought this book after reading rave reviews in the Sea Breezes magazine and Ship's Monthly, the former, I recall, calling it "a work of art".

It's the best reminder of what QE2 was, how she looked in the latter part of her life, and there's a reason why it gets so many five star comments both here and on other websites.

4.0 out of 5 stars last look inside the QE2, 2 Jan 2010
By
Waterschoot L. Van "Leo van Waterschoot" (Rotterdam - Holland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: QE2: A Photographic Journey (Hardcover)
QE2 was withdrawn from service in the autumn of 2008. She had a long and eventful life. It became obvious that a number of books would be released upon her withdrawal. This is just one of many

I purchased this book because it has, for a reasonable price, the best of colour pictures of her interiour. Dont expect a very detailed text but if you are hungry to see the splendour inside this world famous ship, than this is probably the best book and value for your money.

As I live in Holland and have seen QE2 only a few times when she visited the port of Rotterdam. Although I always wanted to take a look inside, but with all the security matters, that became stricter every time, I never was able to go on board.

This book fills the gap and showed the QE2 how she actually looks inside, upon her withdraw from service. It is only a pity that QE2 in this splendid condition had to leave. All there is left for me is this book
