a well written biography of the greatest lady golfer of the period between the two wars, some will say the greatest lady player of all time.she grew tired of beating the best lady golfers then started to play matches against the best men of the day including bobby jones and gene sarazen, playing them on level terms, off the mens tees and beating them.bobby jones said she was the best player he had ever played male or female.a must read for anyone interested in golf from that golden age.

This is a well told story of Joyce Wethered, a golfing star of the 1920's who somehow slipped almost completely under the radar. This excellent publication gives an insight into Joyce's chacter and personality on and off the golf course. We learn the story of a private, modest and yet determined champion. Joyce played golf in the same era of the immortal Bobby Jones, and whilst parallels may be drawn regarding their respective dominance, their conduct in victory and rare defeat, remain more endearing qualities. Sadly for someone so completely dominant in her era, she recieves absloutly no recognition in the modern golf world. However, after becoming acquainted with her through this publication, Joyce may not be too perturbed about that, as I am not sure she would have enjoyed the modern golf world.
