5.0 out of 5 stars The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith
I came across this novel when browsing the new releases and thought it looked interesting and worth a read. I'm glad I took the punt because the Cuckoo's Calling is a terrific mystery story. The brother of a troubled model calls in a private investigator following her death in what the police are treating as suicide. Everything points to this but as we get deeper in to...

3.0 out of 5 stars An average novel, with a tendency to slide into sterotypes and cliches
In Robert Galbraith's debut novel, supermodel Lula Landry falls from a balcony, her death is ruled a suicide and the world moves on, but not everyone agrees that this is what happened that fateful night.

Robert Galbraith got away with his Super Secret Pseudonym for all of 5 seconds before being exposed as the publishing sensation JK Rowling who was apparently...

5.0 out of 5 stars How to write in excellent English and entertain at the same time, 10 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It is so good to read a book where vocabulary, grammar and expression are so good and the precision of the writing conveys so well the characters and their story. It leaves one waiting for the next in the series. J.K. Rowling has no need to prove herself a wonderful writer and I quite understand why she was unhappy that her nom de plume was leaked to future readers. She wished people to buy her books for their quality not because of the great pleasure she has given to millions by the Harry Potter series. Better luck next time J.K. This means you'll have to start a totally different series under another name as well as satisfying those of us who are waiting for another by "Robert Galbraith". You've a lot of work ahead of you!

2.0 out of 5 stars Reportage mainly zzzzzzzzzzzz, 10 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Why would the reader be interested in what happens to a dead person they didn't know?

You have to like a character and/or have empathy with them to actually care what happens/has happened to them and with the character already dead by the time you read the first page then you can't connect with them.

I understand that we're supposed to connect with Strike and Robin but again there's nothing particularly likeable to connect with so again, who really cares?

Reportage all the way through basically... nothing to get that excited about and when you guess who's the killer about 25% into the book then why bother with the remaining 75%?

Won't be reading any sequel, that's for sure!!
