5.0 out of 5 stars The best Green Day biography!, 8 Mar. 2007
By
As a huge green day fan i have found myself reading many biographies of the band. I admit most of them say the same thing about how Billie Joe got his first guitar 'blue' from his dad right before he passed away, right? Wrong! not in this book, this book tells the TRUTH about How things happened, how the members grew up and how they became world superstars. It goes into the band with great detail, especially during their early lives.

The only problems that i have with the book is that: 1) the author is slightly biased towards the band, forever saying, 'green day rock!'2)the other, and most important is that it doesn't really go into much detail about how they came about their mid-career albums: Insomniac, Nimrod, and warning. It even totally skips Shenanigans!

Despite those two problems, i think that this is the best Green Day biography around. It has great interviews with family members of the band and people who were close to them, for example- the real guy who gave Billie Joe the guitar 'blue' which, actually, was infact not Billie's first guitar.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read, 23 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've been a Green Day fan for years, and saw them live for the first time a couple of weeks ago at Manchester County Cricket Club. They were amazing and made me want to find out everything about them, hence purchasing this book. The book concentrates heavily on their early years and how the punk music scene started in California and how Green Day became a part of it. Was dissapointed that there wasnt much mention of their personal lives as adults, which I would have liked, but still a good read for any Green Day fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, 2 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Nobody Likes You: Inside the Turbulent Life, Times and Music of Green Day (Paperback)
When I read this book I was blown away. The details that are included are extremely personal as the information has been gathered from the band members themselves and the the family of the band. Before I read the book I was not aware of the personal conditions that Billie Joe, Mike and Tre grew up in and it strengthened my love for them and the music they produce.
Amazing eye opener and worth a read even if you are not a Green Day fan!

A little dated but covers the early years well with good background information and excerpts from personal interviews with the band. Well written and has photos. Will only take you as far as 'American Idiot' but as many people I've talked to (and a lot of the kids I teach) seem to think that this was when Green Day first 'arrived' I would recommend it to anyone looking for more info about the beginnings of the band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, 11 July 2011

Have only reached around the half way point so far but it's a excellent read! A fair amount of the start talks about other local bands as well as detailed info on how Gilman Street started and progressed before Green Day, which some may not like, but it's all essencial, seems a thorough biography, great reading for any big Green Day fan.

Special thanks to the seller, halcyonbooksuk, for such a fantastic price and amazingly equally as good delivery! Thankyou!
