This review is from: David Stirling: Founder Of The Sas: The Authorised Biography of the Founder of the SAS (Paperback)
David Sterling was obviously a most remarkable character. He and his band of rough and ready commandos inflicted far more damage on the Germans than a force 100 times the size could have done.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Father of the SAS, 27 Dec 2000

This review is from: David Stirling: Founder Of The Sas: The Authorised Biography of the Founder of the SAS (Paperback)
David Stirling envisaged a fighting force that would change modern combat warfare , not for his own personal gain but for a more higher need - his country. During World War 2 David Stirling constantly fought to have his ideas heard and but for some good fortune and some luck may never have suceeded. David's dream was to take highly trained men who were chosen, not only for thier physical atributes but also for their particular knowlage in certain areas like parachuting, munitions and various other skills and train them in small teams to cause as much damage as possible to the enemy (Germans & Italiens initally in the deserts of North Africa ). this he did with some degree of success ,but also some losses which helped the infancy of the SAS to improve to a force that went on to cause great hinderance to the enemy. Unrortunately Stirling was captured and spent time in a prisoner of war camp . the SAS therefore had to evolve without him but forever will he be known as the Fater of the SAS
