A compact, practical guide,
By
This review is from: Clematis (RHS Practicals) (Paperback)
This book packs a lot of information about one of our most diverse and popular garden plants into one slim volume accompanied with plenty of photographs. There's lots of clear, practical information, including one of the best pruning guides around, a subject most gardeners feel they need more help with. There's some good unusual ideas and projects for using clematis in different ways to the usual growing up a fence or trellis. The book ends with a photographic guide to lots of Clematis, ordered by flower colour. These are mainly the most popular tried and trusted older cultivars; you'll need to look elsewhere for the more modern introductions. That said, there's more than enough choice in this little volume for the most hard-bitten of Clematis enthusiasts.

This is a really excellent little book for understanding what to do when with your clematis. It is also written in language that is easy to understand for the novice or the experienced gardener. Well worth the money.

Anybody who has been smitten by the beauty and diversity of this group of climbing plants will find this book invaluable. Squarely aimed at gardeners new to the genus, this RHS guide tells you everything you need to know about growing clematis. My own copy is now extremely well thumbed, and friends are often dipping in to it for advice. A great little book at a fair price.

My clematis bible. Bought this as a replacement as I lost my previous copy and felt lost without it. This has everything to help you choose and care for your plants in a lightweight handy little book that is easy to take with you around the garden.

My husband and I bought our first Clematis recently, as we both admired them in other people's gardens. However we are not expert gardeners and have never had a Clematis before. We so wanted to plant and keep this new addition to our garden in the best possible way, so I bought this book.My recently retired husband does all the 'hands on' gardening, so he read this book and found it very, very informative and helpful. As a novice Clematis owner he felt that we could not have achieved such a good planting as we have done, without the help of this wonderful book. We intend to buy one or two other Clematis plants in the future and we are really glad that we have this excellent book for future reference.

This book arrived in pristine condition. I am a new fan of the beautiful Clematis and pre book had my first planted in garden. It should have a good chance of survival with direction from this easy to read, informative and useful book. It's already inspiring another Clematis purchase as, it contains information on which types can be grown in containers, previously I've been advised against this, so great news for me! One area in which I would improve the book is more specifics on fertilising. It advises using manure. Manure isn't something I know anything about. Like how much should I use? At what stage of decomposition should it be at? Will it cause weed growth as manure can contain seeds? Apart from that I love this book.
